PEN & INK: FROM SKETCH TO FINISHED DRAWINGS

A HANDS-ON INTENSIVE WORKSHOP FOCUSEDON EXPRESSIVE LINEWORK AND INK DRAWING

This workshop focuses on drawing with pen and ink, combining quick sketching and drawing exercises with the development of a more polished and detailed ink illustration. The approach bridges spontaneous mark-making and intentional linework, making it engaging both for tattoo artists and for people interested in drawing and illustration in general. The workshop is designed as an intensive experience, encouraging participants to explore fundamentals, refine their technique, and complete a finished piece.

Target audience: Tattoo artists, illustrators, art students, and anyone interested in developing their pen-and-ink drawing skills. No advanced materials or large workspace required.

OBJECTIVES :

  • Explore the fundamentals of drawing and linework using pen and ink
  • Practice quick sketching and gesture-based drawing exercises
  • Develop confidence and control in expressive linework
  • Learn how to transition from loose sketches to a refined ink drawing
  • Complete a more elaborate, finished ink illustration

DAY 1 – Foundations of Ink Drawing

Schedule:

  • Introduction & theory. Materials overview and core drawing principles
  • Demos: hatching, line-weight, contrast, and value
  • Guided mark-making and line control exercises
  • Observational drawing session

DAY 2 – From Sketch to Finished Drawing

Schedule:

  • Warm-up exercises 
  • Theory: pencil to ink workflow
  • Planning a composition and pencil sketching
  • Inking and refinement session
  • Final critique and review
